On Thursday, Susan and Matthew left Orlando in the very early AM and flew to Portland, Oregon. They travelled to Eugene, Oregon, checked in and came to Walterville, Oregon to pick me up for the trip back to Eugene. It was better than great to see them both after seven weeks. Eugene was very crowded with Olympic hopefuls, relatives, and sports fans. Friday morning, we met Mickey Grimes, who part of the Nike Track Team. Mickey Mickey was eating breakfast at the hotel where were staying. Mickey was running the 100 meter event and gave us the rundown on this event and the participants. I gave Mickey one of our cards for The Big Ride 2008, and he was very interested in the trip and was going to take a look at our web site after the Olympic Trials. Mickey is a strong Christian and would make a great reprewsentative of our country at the China Olympics. Matthew had his photo made with Mickey and we wished him well. I took a look at the Olympic Trials web site and unfortunately, Mickey did not make the team. He had a strong early time of 10.01, but in the trials, every day is a new day, and later times did not let him into the finals.

On Friday, June 27, 2008, we met Marvin "The Machine" Tallent, and Scott "Speedy" Cain in Florence, Oregon. I suited up for the final ride to the beach, and it felt good to be back in the saddle again. We walked our bicycles across a long stretch of sand littered with hundreds of large logs washed up all over the beach. Matthew said the beach looked like a "bone yard". The wind was blowing around 50 miles per hour, which we found out is not unusual for the afternoon along this part of the Oregon coast. Susan recorded the Pacific touchdown on the video recorder. Maybe they can put a clip on this web site? It was an exciting finish to a seven week adventure. On the way back to the Florence Christian Church, we stopped by United States Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River. We met the Executive Officer and got some great photos.

I got some great news on my Mom's surgery today. It was a total success and a full recovery is expected. My Mom is on the prayer list of every church we stayed at for the last seven weeks. All of the prayers were answered and she will be headed home soon. Many thanks to all.
